FFVII questions
ok, so i just finished watching FFVII Advent Children, and it made no sense. I have only played part of the first disc of the game, so i need some clarity:
1. Who is Jenova, and how is Sephiroth connected?
2. They keep talking about a corporation that channeled the lifeforce to make life better. What significance does this have?
3. who is the gang who tries to kill Cloud, and why does their leader turn into sephiroth?
4. Who is the "mother" that the gang talks about, and why do they call Cloud "brother"?
5.What is with the silver pool, and why does Cloud hold Aeris over it, does she die?
6. What does materia do?
Thanks in advance. the movie is great, but it isn't understndable unless you have played FFVII I asume.

Yep your right, you would have had to play the game to understand half the story. You should try renting it or something, it's doable in a week or two.
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. Jenova is an alien from outer space she goes from planet to planet sucking in their life force and eventually killing it. Sepheroth was made from her cells.
2. They are talking about ShinRa corporation, it is a huge company that used the life force from the earth into energy called Mako(sorta like oil). In time it will run out and will cause the Earth to die so some of the story line involves in stopping the ShinRa.
3. To be honest I'm really not sure. I watched the Japanese version and I wasn't filled in about who the 'Silver Haired Men' really are, sorry. Kadaj turns into Sepheroth since he takes in the Jenova cells
4. The mother is Jenova, the same one from #1. My guess is those guys came from her cells too. They call Cloud brother since he was experimented with Mako to turn into a super soldier, I think those guys were experimented as well.
5. The pool (I can't remember what it was called) was an area in the game where Aeris gets killed, yes she dies and almost everyone who's heard of FF7 knows so no spoiler there. just a dramatic moment scene from the game they remade.
6. Materia is the materialized form of Mako energy. They can use it for magic summons, abilities, etc.
I'm not 100% sure btw, I'm just remembering things from the top of my head. I haven't played the game in a while so no fanboy better not flame me for saying something wrong lol.

Massive spoilers on FFVII AC...
.
.
.
.
The SHM (Silver haired men) are believed to be Sephiroth himself, after being defeated and dissipated into the Lifestream, the three persona (referred to as "spirits" in the movie) appeared from nowhere. I believe that they are Geostigma incarnate--they are the personification of the Jenova influence (or Sephiroth's influence on Jenova, according to some) come to recreate the "reunion" (the basis of FFVII's Jenova plot--the coalescence of all Jenova cells to reunite Jenova into a whole.)
They wanted what ShinRa's Rufus had--a portion of Jenova's cells--to complete the Reunion and summon Jenova (at this point, now Sephiroth as Jenova and Seph are now nearly one and the same). At the point in time where Kadaj obtains Jenova from Rufus, he's in a losing situation in the fight with Cloud, and decides to complete the Reunion using only himself and Sephiroth.
As you see in the movie, the three men dissipate when they're in contact with the same rain that dissolves the Geostigma on the children--this is what leads me to believe they're influenced by the same being.

1. Jenova's, as has been said, the alien, the "ancient" who's cells were used to create Sephiroth, and her cells were also used to try and create other "versions" of Sephiroth that never really succeeded (Cloud being one of them, infused with mako and jenova cells.)
2. Yeah, ShinRa, bad guys in the game who try to stop Sephiroth too, but they're mean mako sucking, money loving bastards. Mean corporation peoples.
3. They are the three Silver Haired men. They appeared, kinda..."from nowhere", they were created, as I understand it, in the same sense that geostigma was created. Geostigma, being the disease that is Jenova's cells in the life stream, these three silver haired men are the essence of Sephiroth---they're walking Geostigma---as is evident by them being "harmed" by the water that dissolves geostigma, larvae of Sephiroth, they're Sephiroth's "spirit", and can turn into him once obtaining Jenova's cells. Imagine little Sephiroth larvae coming out of the lifestream, complete clones of Sephiroth except for Mother (Jenova).
4. Jenova, the alien (head). Cloud is infused with mako and is also a failed Sephiroth clone making him their "brother", as they're all created in a sense from Jenova.
5. In the game, Aeris dies, that's a flashback to a part in the game where Aeris is killed by Sephiroth and Cloud lowers her body into the lake.
6. Materia is materialized mako energy from the lifestream, it grants the one who uses it with his or her weapon/armor/body powers like fire, powers to summon things, etc.
Haha, I just elaborated on points already mentioned. I'm special.

Alot of sqaure fanboys will debate their opinion on you forever because they think their crazy guesses and such have merit.
Basically (SPOILERS) FF7 in a nutshell:
Jenova is an alien lifeforce that has to devour the energy (lifestream) of a planet to fed itself, so it goes planet to planet and reaps all the planets energy, killing the planets in the process. The "Ancients" are a race not thought to be from this world either, but they kindly go to the planet and commune with it sort of the opponent fashion of Jenova. Jenova has very strong mental powers to get its will across. It can make you see what it wants you to see...beleive what it wants you to beleive..and manipulate you as such (Its said in the game "it appeared as the spirits of our dead loved ones" or w/e). Jenova tryed to get on the good side of everyone then make them all sick (draining the lifeforce) but they sealed it.
30 years before the time of the game, Jenova was re-discovered and started its plan again. Jenova's influence was behind Shin'Ras choice to move into the energy business (the first Mako Reactor was commissioned the year Jenova was discovered). Mako Reactors weaken the planet to draw a energy source out of it. Jenova's silent will then set in motion its plan again. People were injected with Jenova's cells, icluding the first of which Sephiroth, who was lietreally born of Jenova (had its DNA put in his egg before he even developed)
The game is seen through a nobodies eyes (a normal..Joe Blow caught up in the story)...thats why people can get a weird proception of the story, you are hearing it through the eyes and ears of someone thats constantly getting lied too, and doesn't even remember his past because of Mako energy effecting his mind.
Your Protagonist is Aerith (Aeris) the last of the ancients, and Jenova is your antagonist. Cloud (the nobody cuaght up in it) is often refered to as the protagonist simply because it is he you follow in the story...but you must realize..he really doesnt do jack...half the story he is under Jenova's control or brainsick. Sephiroth is protrayed as the antagonist..when thats really unfair to him also. You must realize that Sephiroth has grown since an infact under the will of Jenova, he doesnt know anything else. One of the debated things is whether Sephiroth ever has a full human soul or not.
Anyway..Jenova starts a phase in his plan..to damage the planet with a metoer so it gathers up all its energy and Jenova can suck it up easy from the core. Your team in the game stops that from happening (Aeris really did the hard part, before she died). AC is just the immedient aftermath (I think its like 2 years later) of this occurance. The same plague that Jenova gave the anicents is taking over the people the Midgar and killing lots of people. Sephiroth, note, all he is, is a human form for Jenova..he is born from Jenova's very cells..one of jenova's powers you learn in the game is keeping good tabs on all her parts even when separated. So Sephiroth really cant die.
The best way I have to describe it is Agents in the Matrix...the "silver haired" guys can be related to the people in the Matrix, and when he combined himself with part of Jenova he can relate to the Agents in the Matrix. (in this case being the form of Sephiroth). Probably taking this form because of its personal connection with Cloud (a pyshe out thing).
He tells Cloud in the movie...Nomatter how many times you kill me..I'm just going to come back..You cant just get rid of Jenova..so the movie really didnt end anything - Jenova is not so easily disposed of.
The constant Aeris visions are because Aeris was obviously very important to Cloud..and the world in general.
---------
Thats as basic as it gets...you can hear 101 different stories and thoeries fanboys have about detials of relationships and who controls who, and crazy ideas sometimes, but this is boiled down version.

It's a really great storyline as a whole, BECAUSE it's so confusing. Honestly nothing's better than a six foot guy with six foot hair wielding a six foot sword who's totally off his rocker, killing everyone and everything to become a God, as the bad guy.
You know I don't care what anyone says Sephiroth is the bad guy, he's insane, he was taking orders from a head, Jenova's head, ripped right off the body. How crazy is that? Little hard to control people's minds when you're head's been torn off 'eh Jenova? (Yeah I know you "fight" Jenova in-game, but I mean c'mon, those are just squishy mishapen polygon looking things, Jenova's still just a head in a box!)

No, they didn't remake it. They simply decided to create a sequel in the form of a film.

That's what I thought, it was set for like November of last year then was pushed back to early 2006, and now I've no idea. It better be out soon though.
Hopefully when it does come out in english they get some damn good voice actors, the voices were great in the japanese version, and if the english peoples don't sound as good as the japanese peoples I'll just watch the japanese version anyway. Subtitles are no big deal.

1.Jenova was sent to Earth hoping to take over it from the Ancients which is the original race inhabiting the planet and then use the planet as a vessel to take over another planet.
2.Shinra used machines to suck mako which is made out of the lifestream. They then used the mako as energy however the lifestream isn't abundant and
wears away on teh planet.
3.You've stumped me...who are they?? However I do know they are related to Jenova and want to do what Jenova could not.
4.The trio are made from Jenova cells and so is Cloud therefore making them like a family...
5.Its a flashback to the scene where Cloud lays down Aeris' body after she gets killed by Sephiroth. The pool btw is in the scene with the wolf after you see Cloud's phone sinking.
6.Materia is something that is made in a complicated process involving mako and the lifestream and gives powers to whoever has uses them. IE when Kadaj
conjures a fireball which shots at Rufus.
Yep the movie is really confusing...
Now a question from me, how the hell did Tseng and Rufus survive?? If i recall correctly Rufus died very very painfully (he couldn't have survived weapons salvo) and Tseng was killed by Seph...

Tseng was badly wounded but not dead iirc. Rufus tried explaining how he survived to Cloud but from what I garnered Cloud wasn't interested and interrupted him before he could say anything.
